FAQ's

How much will a Solarstream PV Solar system save me?

Depending on the location of your home and the way in which you use your electrical appliances. A PV Solar power systems can save you up to 40% on your annual electricity bill.  A  6 kw / 21 panel system  will deliver  first year  savings  of €1,200  and  average  annual savings of  c €2,140 pa  over the  twenty  five year  warranty  period. Solar Energy is fast becoming one of the cheapest forms of renewable energy and is a great plus for the environment.

Does the system have a warranty?

All systems come with a manufacturers warranty of 25 years on your panels. For more information on individual products please contact a member of our team.

Is my home suitable for a Solar panel system?

For your Solar Panel system to work effectively, the ideal roof is south-facing and unshaded, particularly from other trees or buildings. There needs to be approximately 25 square metres of clear roof space. The system charges in daylight and not just in sunshine, as often thought. Surprisingly, a solar system in Ireland will produce the equivalent of 70% of what it would  generate in the Mediterranean, so we just put up extra panels to reach the level of generation  you need.

How long do Solar Panel systems take to install?

We work to the very highest standards of safety and quality, weather permitting we can usually complete installations in one single day if required.  The only interruption to your life will be when our electricians turn your electricity off for a brief period to connect the panels.

Do you use quality equipment?

We use high quality panels and inverters and only use Tier 1 Rated Panels which are the highest standard in the world.

What geographrical area do you cover ?

We cover all parts of Ireland.

Why should I swtich to Solar?

The sun rises every day. That's why solar power is a completely renewable, reliable and clean energy source. It reduces your reliance on dirty sources of power such as oil, coal and natural gas, which produce harmful emissions affecting our health and environment.

Solarstream has pioneered the "Pay as You Save" model in Ireland and we are delivering on a vision to create an Ireland powered by the sun and provide Irish People with affordable, reliable and clean energy. Our systems represent an investment in the future of the country, conserving non-renewable energy sources and protecting the environment.

In addition to PV solar panels, our batteries are becoming more affordable, accessible, resilient and efficient. They provide peace of mind and energy security for you when the power goes out or the next storm strikes.

Unlike those from your Utility Electricity Provider, Solarstream customers pay predictable, affordable rates for 25 years. With home solar, you get to control your energy future.

Why do yo need my electricity bills?

Your historical electricity usage allows us to design a solar system that is the right size for your needs. Electricity usage varies from person to person and from season to season. That’s why we request a full year of your electricity bills so we can build a system that’s right for you.

Will I notice any difference when I switch to Solarstream?

After you switch to Solarstream, you won’t notice a difference. Your lights, appliances, televisions and everything else that uses electricity will work exactly as they did before.

The one key difference you will notice after switching to Solarstream  is in how you pay for your power. You will still continue to receive a monthly bill from your utility supplier . If you are on  the ‘Pay as You Save’ scheme with Solarstream you will have a monthly bill with Solarstream as well. If you are buying the system upfront you will notice your bill dropping and seeing the  savings every month.

How much energy you end up having to buy from your utility supplier  will depend on the size of your solar system and how much electricity you're actually using.

Because of weather and seasonal changes, your  bill will vary from month to month. But you’ll always know exactly what you owe Solarstream for the duration of our agreement.

How does a home solar system work?

A home solar system is made up of components that all work together to convert the power of sunlight into usable energy for your lights, appliances and devices:

  • Solar panels are made of photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight to direct current electricity (DC electricity). As long as the sun’s light is  making contact with your roof, your panels are converting solar radiation into DC electricity. Even when it’s cloudy, you can still expect your panels to produce 25% of their normal output
  • You need an inverter to get the kind of power you need to turn the lights on. The inverter takes the DC electricity produced by your solar panels and turns it into alternating current electricity (AC electricity). It’s typically installed in the attic, or the utility room
  • Solarstream Monitoring App Solarstream. Your Solarstream App monitors your system production and sends the information to you through a wireless signal. And this will give you information at your fingertips as to how the system is performing for you. Since it tracks your energy production 24/7, it will automatically alert us if it detects problems or irregularities
What Is The Solarstream Batterybox?

Our Batterybox is our unique solar battery service. The battery can be used for backup electricity, when you are out and about during the day, in the event of a power cut, and so you can  have better control over your power costs.

If there is a power cut, your battery will take over and send power to the back up sockets that we install and that allows you to choose what to power in the event of a power cut.

We can size your system to supply approximately 4 to 12 hours of backup energy (depending on the number of batteries you choose to install), plus whatever the sun provides during the day.

With our unique Monitoring App, You can check the charge of your battery to help you plan your usage and make sure you have power through the night.

As we develop our Batterybox network across our customers homes, you become a member of a growing 'Solarstream Community'. We hope soon that when the Irish Regulations catches up with the rest of Europe you will be able to buy and sell power with other members of Your Community.

Should I Hire or Buy the Solarstream PV Solar System?

Hiring and buying solar panels come with their own unique advantages.

Purchasing solar generally requires upfront investment which can make it cost-prohibitive for many. That's why Solarstream offers a stress-free 'Pay as You Save' scheme (PAYS) whereby you can pay for the system over an agreed period (normally five years) allowing you to spread the payments over a period when the savings on your electricity bill can be used towards the  payments. So you can switch to solar for a small deposit. When you subscribe for your solar panels on a PAYS scheme, or pay for power through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), you are only responsible for an agreed monthly payment/subscription. Since Solarstream still owns the system when you enter into a PAYS agreement, we’ll also provide top-notch monitoring and maintenance during the length of your agreement, free of charge. That means clean, worry-free energy. At the end of the PAYS or PPA period you own the system outright.

We also know that many people want to own their equipment outright and invest upfront. When you own your solar system you own your production and all the benefits that come with the solar investment. A Solar system can deliver you an attractive return on your investment of up to 12% pa.

Care and Service of my Solar System

Solar systems generally operate without the need for much care and maintenance but there are a few things you can do as a solar homeowner to make sure you are getting the most out of your solar system.

Trim back trees
The more sun on your panels, the better. It's a good idea to keep nearby trees trimmed to allow the sunshine to reach your panels for as much of the day as possible.

Self Cleaning panels
Just a few rainy days a year is enough to keep your panels clean. They are self-cleaning and generally don’t require cleaning in an Irish environment.
